Guidance counselors will assist students registering for SAT’s

Guidance counselors and students meet for senior interviews to discuss college plans, financial aid options, transcripts, resumes and scholarships

Parents and students continue searching for and visiting colleges, and narrowing down their choices to approximately five


October
Students take the SAT exam

Students obtain teacher
recommendation forms in guidance office to be distributed to at least two teachers

Students meet deadlines for Early Decision and Early Action applications and begin all other applications

Parents complete CSS/Financial Aid Profile if required at CollegeBoard.com

Students work on application essays

Students search for scholarships (see college planning guide for specific sites)

Parents and students attend local college fairs; see guidance counselors for specific sites


November
Students should submit applications to guidance office to be reviewed

Students should advise guidance counselors of any on-line applications submitted

Guidance counselors send out transcripts, report cards, resumes, and recommendations for all submitted applications


December
Students take SAT exams

Parents and students attend financial aid information night (see guidance counselor for date and time)

Students submit any outstanding applications (prior to winter break)

Students pick up FAFSA (financial aid) forms in guidance office


January
Parents and students submit FAFSA forms after January 1 (and profile if required) before financial aid deadlines


March
Parents and students provide  guidance counselors with proof of scholarship offers and college acceptances


April
Parents and students review admission decision and financial aid award letters and note reply deadlines

Parents and students review financial aid packages

Students notify colleges of their decision to accept or decline by deadline date


May
Students take AP exams and have scores sent to their final choice college


June
Students earning college credit need to contact college directly to request that official transcripts be sent to final choice college (guidance counselors will assist with this process)

Students request final high school transcripts from guidance counselors to be sent to their final choice college
