Welcome to Math AIS. I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year!
What is Math AIS? Math AIS (Academic Intervention Services) is a non-credit bearing course that is designed for students who have struggled on New York State Assessments. Students are placed into Math AIS based on their performances on the 8th grade state tests. The course meets every other day with the intention of supplementing material that comes out of the classroom.
What will we do?
Class will be run on a 3-day rotation. Day 1 and Day 2 you will be given an assignment to complete in class. Once you complete the assignment and confirm with me, you will work on your homework.
Each Day 1 and Day 2 the class will be given a grade from 1 to 5 based on class behavior/participation/effort. (1 being the worst and 5 being the best). If the scores from Day 1 and 2 add up to 7 or higher, the class will play a math game on Day 3. If the scores from Day 1 and 2 add up to 6 or lower, the class will do an additional 40 minute long assignment, instead of a game. A score of 0 for a single day will result in no games to be played for the rest of the quarter.
Examples:
Your Grade: Math AIS is a Pass/Fail class. Your grade will be determined based on your individual class participation, effort, & behavior.
Stamps: Stamps will be given to individuals who show excellent effort/behavior or if you or your team wins a game. As you collect stamps, you will be able to cash them in for different rewards/prizes in the future.
