What is EI (Early Intervention)?
EI (early intervention) services, is a program for infants and/or toddlers from birth to age three who have developmental delays. These services are only provided through the county in which the child resides in.
Some children Birth to age 2 receive services called Early Intervention, if they are eligible. These students are usually guided by the team that works with their child to assist them in the transition at age 3 to the CPSE committee.
Wallkill School District is a unique with its geographical locations in two counties. Wallkill families can reside in Orange County or Ulster County depending on their address. The county of residence is notified of students who are entering the CPSE process and are always invited to attend committee meetings.
There are two counties in the Wallkill Central School District. Please use your appropriate county to get your information.
If a child received early intervention services as an infant or toddler and may still need special education as a preschool-age child they can be referred. They are usually referred to CPSE when the child turns two – two and a half. The EI referral has to happen six months prior to the child’s third birthday.
Many children who receive Early Intervention Program (EIP) services may also be eligible for special education programs and services as preschoolers. In this case, several key dates are defined in law and regulation relating to the action steps within the transition planning process from EIP to preschool special education programs and/or services. This calculator will assist in identifying those key dates for individual children by entering the child’s birth date.
