PRE-KINDERGARTEN AT Wallkill

On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the Wallkill community approved the 2023-2024 school budget; therefore, the district will be implementing two (2) sections of in-house Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) in the 2023-2024 school year. The maximum class size will be eighteen (18) students per section.

There will be no district transportation for the program.

The District will hold a random lottery to determine enrollment in the proposed UPK program. All eligible applicants will be entered individually into the lottery. The lottery will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Access to the lottery will be on the Wallkill Central School District website.

The pre-kindergarten experience engages children in activities that promote intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth through books, puzzles, art materials, dramatic play props, and math and science manipulatives. New York State certified teachers and teaching assistants provide carefully planned instruction with lots of opportunities for children to make friends, be considerate of others, experience new things and, by the end of the school year, be prepared for kindergarten.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for the lottery was available on April 21, 2023, and were due by Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. All families will be notified of their child's status on June 2, 2023. Any student not selected in the lottery for a seat will be placed on a waiting list.

The deadline to submit an application to be included in the lottery for the 2023-2024 school year was Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

The following is required to be eligible for the lottery:

You must be a resident of the Wallkill Central School District

Your child must be four (4) years old on/before December 1, 2023

You must complete and return the lottery application form to the Wallkill Central School District Office for Educational Services by Tuesday, May 16, 2023, by 12:00 p.m.

Please note that there may be additional slots with outside agencies through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Therefore, if you are not selected in the random lottery for the in-house slots, you may be eligible for the out-of-district slots dependent on the approval of RFP submissions from outside agencies. The submissions from outside agencies are due May 18, 2023.
